Liverpool’s Champions League victory against Manchester City was marred by fans attacking City’s coach as they approached Anfield the stadium.
Fans set off flares and threw bottles at the coach. Twitter reacted angrily too the attack, with many criticising how the fans acted.
The coach was left underivable and City had to call for different transport back to Manchester. The players were left visibly shaken.
Pep Guardiola was extremely angry with the attack and Jurgan Klopp was apologetic to City while condemning the actions of a small group of fans, as per a report in MirrorFootball.
The hostile atmosphere carried onto the pitch, where Klopp’s men took firm control of the tie, with a 3-0 victory. First half goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin and Sadio Mane put Klopp’s men firmly in control going into the second leg at the Etihad.
Whether the City players were affected by the attack is still unclear but UEFA have charged Liverpool over the attack and opened disciplinary proceedings.

UEFA will not hear the case until 31 May which is after the Champions League final. This means any sanctions would only apply next season.
